Spring's Black Lip Trend

Black doesn't seem like a very spring-like color. Yet the Spring 2010 runways didn't seem to care.

Black lacquered lips stole the show at the Jason Wu, Rodarte and Dennis Basso collections, among several other shows.

While that's all well and good for the lanky, tall models strutting on the theatrical catwalk, what's the everyday woman supposed to do with a trend like that?

Three Customer Color Specialists -- a makeup line beloved by many makeup artists and known for its custom-blending specialty -- has addressed that very question, transforming the trend into a wearable (yes, you heard us!) black lipstick and gloss, which looks far more grown-up and chic than the vampire-meets-rebellious-goth-girl look seen on the runways.

The trick? The black is raisin-based, which can look cool or warm, depending on your skin tone.

Noir Sheer Lipstick slicks on with a light veil of burgundy plum-black. Made with balm-like pigments, one swipe gives you the effect of a sheer blackberry stain - somewhat similar to one of Clinique's best-selling lipsticks, Black Honey. Wear the lipstick alone for a totally wearable stain, or layer over lips primed with foundation to reveal a more dramatic look for night.

Meanwhile, Noir Lipgloss infuses the same base shade with shininess for a super-glassy finish. A light application over any lipcolor will cool and add depth to your lips.

When wearing a sheer black shade, skip an obvious-looking lipliner and instead apply with brush or gloss wand. Very lightly lining around lips with a brush dipped in concealer and blending after you apply color highlights the lip and assures the color won't budge.

And come Fall, this lip works brilliantly with all of the season's styles.

Three Custom Color's new black lipstick and gloss are sheer and light enough for everyday wear.
